No Plans to Shut Down XDefiant After Season Four
Ubisoft’s free-to-play shooter XDefiant is not shutting down after season four, according to executive producer Mark Rubin. Rubin recently took to social media to debunk claims that the shooter would be calling it a day once its current roadmap comes to a close.
Improving the Technical Experience
Rubin stated that the team is currently focused on improving the technical experience, including netcode, and adding more content for seasons three and four. He also admitted that the team had done very little marketing for the game, resulting in low player numbers. However, this is a deliberate move to bring the game up to a better place before investing in bigger marketing campaigns to attract new players and bring back those who have left.
A History of Challenges
XDefiant has faced several challenges since its initial reveal in 2021. The game was initially revealed as Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, but Ubisoft later dropped the prefix following criticism from Tom Clancy fans. The game has also experienced several delays, including a missed launch due to console certification issues and another delay due to inconsistencies in the game experience.
XDefiant’s Future Plans
Despite the challenges, Rubin’s recent statement confirms that there are no plans to shut down XDefiant after season four. The team is committed to improving the game and bringing new content to players. With a renewed focus on marketing and player experience, XDefiant may yet find success in the competitive free-to-play shooter market.
