Xbox Cloud Gaming Expands: Stream Your Owned Games Now
Big news for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers! Microsoft is expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming to include your existing game library. Currently, 50 games are accessible via cloud streaming, including titles like Balatro, Baldur’s Gate 3, various Final Fantasy games, and Hogwarts Legacy.
What Games Can You Stream?
This initial 50-game rollout is just the beginning. Microsoft plans to significantly expand the library, working with partners to offer a diverse selection across various devices. Streaming will be available on TVs, smartphones, tablets, and PCs via web browser. Xbox console and Windows app support is planned for next year.
Project Lapland and Future Plans
This expansion is part of Microsoft’s Project Lapland. The goal is to eventually bring thousands of Xbox games to cloud streaming, covering entire game libraries. However, some publishers may restrict certain games due to licensing.
While Microsoft aimed for game library streaming in 2020 and 2022, technical challenges delayed the launch. The process of preparing thousands of games for cloud servers, managing save files, and handling updates proved complex.
Note: Plans to enable game purchases within the Xbox mobile app for Android users in the US are currently uncertain due to a legal battle with Google.
