Xbox Avatar Editor Closing its Doors in 2025
Get ready for a change to your Xbox experience! Microsoft has announced the closure of the Xbox Avatar Editor on January 9, 2025. This means you’ll no longer be able to access or use the editor to update your avatar after that date.
What’s Happening?
Microsoft cited low engagement and a shift in focus towards other player experiences as the reason for the shutdown. Refunds will be automatically issued for any avatar purchases made since November 1, 2023. While you can still use your current avatar as your Gamerpic, you won’t be able to update it through the editor after January 9th.
Good News for Xbox 360 Avatars
Don’t worry, your Xbox 360 Avatars (now officially called Xbox Original Avatars) are safe! These avatars, introduced in 2008, remain accessible and can still be used as Gamerpics. You can even customize them using the Xbox Original Avatars app on consoles and PC. They were featured in various Xbox 360 games, such as 1 vs. 100, A Kingdom for Keflings, and Doritos Crash Course.
Moving Forward
Microsoft encourages players to explore other personalization options within Xbox, including dynamic backgrounds and custom Gamerpics. While the Xbox One Avatar Editor is closing, there are still plenty of ways to customize your gaming experience!
