Wukong Copycats Flood Nintendo eShop
The Nintendo eShop in China is facing a surge of games copying the popular title, Black Myth: Wukong. Following complaints about copycat games on the Switch eShop, another imitation, Wukong Sun: Black Legend, a 2D platformer releasing on December 26th, has been discovered. Its promotional art and title bear a striking resemblance to Game Science’s hit game.
Chinese Fans Express Outrage
Chinese fans have expressed their frustration on social media, highlighting how malicious developers are exploiting the names of well-known games to deceive consumers. One Weibo post, via BusinessInsider, stated that well-known games have long been plagued by imitations.
A similar situation exists in the UK with Wukong’s Child: Monkey King Myth, released in September 2024. Neither Nintendo nor Global Game Studio, the publisher of Wukong Sun: Black Legend, have yet commented.
