The Witcher 4: Ciri Takes Center Stage
The reveal of Ciri as the protagonist in The Witcher 4 surprised some fans, but CD Projekt Red (CDPR) assures it’s a natural progression for the series.
A Familiar Face in a New Role
While Geralt was the star of the previous games, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt already featured Ciri as a playable character. Narrative director Phillip Weber explains that making Ciri the main protagonist is a logical step, building upon her established presence in both the games and Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels.
Weber acknowledges that some fans may miss playing as Geralt, but emphasizes that this decision allows them to honor Geralt’s ending in The Witcher 3 and its expansion, Blood and Wine.
A Long-Term Vision
This shift wasn’t a last-minute decision; CDPR had been planning Ciri’s central role for a considerable time. The studio aims to demonstrate the exciting possibilities of featuring Ciri as the lead, promising a compelling narrative experience.
What’s Next?
CDPR hasn’t revealed a release date or platforms for The Witcher 4, but given the studio’s history, a PC and console release is likely. More information about the game is expected soon.
