Introducing The Lacerator: A Wilfully Old School Survival Horror Game
DreadXP has announced a new horror game called The Lacerator, developed by Brazilian Studio Games From the Abyss. This game promises to be a unique and thrilling experience, with a focus on survival horror elements and a wilfully old school approach.
Gameplay and Features
The Lacerator is an escape-room action puzzle where you’re trapped in a psycho’s Saw-style labyrinth. One of the game’s most notable features is limb removal, which allows you to lose arms or legs without immediately ending the game. Instead, you’ll have to find more inventive ways to escape as you lose limbs. The game features a low-poly aesthetic, with blurred textures reminiscent of PS1 games. The camera is fixed, and the controls are tank-style, adding to the retro feel.
Tone and Themes
The Lacerator has a distinct tone, with a protagonist who is a porn star and a villain who sometimes appears in a skimpy leather two-piece. The game’s subtext is reminiscent of Resident Evil 2, but this time it’s made explicit. Whether this tone will appeal to players remains to be seen.
Try the Demo
If you’re interested in trying The Lacerator for yourself, a demo is available on Steam and itch.io. The full game is set to release in 2025.
