Sumo Digital Cuts Jobs, Focuses on Partner Work
Sumo Digital Shifts Focus, Announces Job Cuts
UK game developer Sumo Digital has announced a restructuring, shifting its focus exclusively to development services for partners. This means the company will no longer create its own IP.
Impact on Staff
The company acknowledges this decision will result in job losses. Sumo Digital states it’s committed to minimizing the impact and supporting affected employees.
Sumo Digital’s History and Acquisitions
Founded in 2003, Sumo Digital has expanded significantly, establishing studios across the UK and India. In 2021, Tencent acquired Sumo Group, Sumo Digital’s parent company.
This restructuring follows previous layoffs in June 2024 and the divestment of Timbre Games.
Past Projects and Future Plans
Sumo Digital has a long history of contributing to major game titles, including the Hitman trilogy, Forza Horizon 4 & 5, Call of Duty: Vanguard, and Hogwarts Legacy. They’ve also led development on numerous games like Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and LittleBigPlanet 3.
The company aims to strengthen its position as a premium development partner, offering services such as game collaboration, co-development, specialized engineering, and porting.
