Stalker 2 Launch: Ukraine’s Internet Broke!
The release of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been met with generally positive reviews. However, the game’s launch in Ukraine had an unexpected consequence: it overwhelmed the internet infrastructure.
A Nation’s Passion
The game’s release in Ukraine, its setting and the developers’ homeland, led to nationwide internet outages. GSC Game World’s creative director and executive producer, Mariia Grygorovych, noted the overwhelming enthusiasm of Ukrainian players, stating it touched everyone in the country.
A Difficult Development
The creation of Stalker 2 was fraught with challenges. The GSC Game World studio faced a fire caused by Russian shelling and the tragic loss of colleague Volodymyr Yezhov, who died fighting Russian forces. The war forced some developers to relocate, leading to a split operation between offices in Prague and Kyiv.
A documentary, War Game: The Making of Stalker 2, details these hardships. Despite the adversity, the game’s release holds a special significance for Ukraine.
A Labor of Love
Grygorovych emphasized the importance of bringing a moment of happiness to Ukrainians. She highlighted the team’s pride in creating something positive for their home country during a difficult time. The game’s success serves as a testament to their resilience and dedication.
