Space Marine 2 Bans Public Match Mods in December Update
Saber Interactive announced that the December update for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 will prohibit custom mods in public online matches. This decision aims to improve server stability, which has been impacted by mods.
Why the Mod Ban?
The developers cited two key reasons for the change:
- Server Stability Issues: Mods are contributing to a significant number of recent server stability problems.
- Save File Corruption: Players without mods have experienced corrupted save files after playing with mod users.
Despite the ban in public matches, mods will remain usable in private Operations lobbies. Support for mods in custom Eternal War lobbies will be added later. Saber Interactive emphasized their appreciation for the modding community and their contributions to the game’s longevity.
Future of Modding in Space Marine 2
Saber Interactive plans to improve modding support by providing easier access to the game’s backend and releasing some internal tools to facilitate easier mod development. This commitment shows their intention to continue supporting the modding community despite the changes.
