Skies of Arcadia: Could We Finally See a Revival?
Sega’s recent trademarks for “Skies of Arcadia” and “Eternal Arcadia” (the game’s Japanese title) have ignited a firestorm of excitement among fans. Could this mean a remaster, a remake, or even a brand-new entry in this beloved RPG series?
A Blast from the Dreamcast Past
Originally released in 2000 for the Dreamcast, Skies of Arcadia, later ported to the GameCube as Skies of Arcadia Legends, quickly gained a dedicated following. The game follows air pirates Vyse, Aika, and Fina as they battle the Valuan Empire. While Skies of Arcadia Legends remains a GameCube exclusive, fan demand for additional ports has been consistently high.
Sega’s Revival Initiative
Sega’s recent actions suggest a renewed focus on reviving classic franchises. In 2023, the company announced new entries in several long-dormant series, including Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage. A new Virtua Fighter game is also in the works.
Hope on the Horizon?
While Sega hasn’t officially confirmed any Skies of Arcadia projects, the trademarks suggest something is brewing. Given Sega’s renewed interest in its back catalog, the possibility of a Skies of Arcadia revival is far from a “pie in the sky” dream. Fans can only hope that this trademark filing signals the return of this cherished RPG.
