Roblox Bolsters Child Safety with New Features

Facing criticism over its handling of child safety, Roblox has announced significant updates to protect young users. Following reports of predators targeting children on the platform, Roblox is implementing several key changes.

Key Improvements for Child Safety:

• Restricted Messaging: Users under 13 cannot directly message others outside of games, enhancing protection against online predators.
• Age-Gated Experiences: Certain experiences, particularly those enabling free-form communication, are now age-gated, restricting access for users under 13.
• Enhanced Parental Controls: Parents can now remotely manage their child’s account settings, view activity, set time limits, and monitor friend lists. This includes linking parental accounts for oversight.
• Simplified Content Labels: Roblox is simplifying its content maturity labels, making it easier for parents to understand the suitability of games and experiences for their children. These range from “minimal” to “restricted.”
• Automatic Age-Based Protection Removal: As children age out of certain safety settings, Roblox will automatically remove them after notifying parents 30 days in advance.

While in-game chat remains accessible for under-13 users (changeable by parents), these measures aim to create a safer environment.
