PS5 Pro’s Jedi: Survivor Patch: A Mixed Bag
The PS5 Pro patch for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor offers a performance mode with ray tracing (RT) effects, including reflections, global illumination, and ambient occlusion. However, the image quality suffers.
Performance Mode Issues
While the performance mode boasts a mostly stable 60fps, the new PSSR upscaling causes significant shimmering and instability, especially in natural environments. This looks noticeably worse than the base PS5’s performance mode. The internal resolution is also not significantly higher than the base PS5, averaging around 900p.
Quality Mode Analysis
The quality mode targets 30fps and shows improved RT details compared to the performance mode. However, it suffers from the same PSSR issues, although less noticeable due to the higher internal resolution. Lighting issues, including pop-in and black surfaces, are also present.
Comparison with DLSS
A comparison with the PC version using DLSS shows that Nvidia’s upscaling provides significantly better image stability and resolution, highlighting the current flaws in PSSR implementation.
Overall Verdict
The PS5 Pro patch is currently a disappointment. The performance mode’s unstable image quality outweighs the benefits of 60fps and RT. While the quality mode offers a higher resolution than the base PS5 quality mode, the PSSR issues persist. Respawn is aware of these problems and is investigating.
