Poppy Playtime Dev Sues Google Over Fake Games
Mob Entertainment, the creator of the popular horror game Poppy Playtime, is suing Google for allowing fake games to operate on the Google Play store. The lawsuit claims Google’s inaction allows unauthorized games, such as Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, to profit from Mob Entertainment’s intellectual property.
Google’s Alleged Role
The lawsuit alleges that Google has repeatedly failed to remove these knockoff games despite receiving DMCA takedown requests and direct contact from Mob Entertainment. These fake games, developed by Daigo, reappeared on the Play Store shortly after being removed, indicating a lack of enforcement from Google.
Damages to Mob Entertainment
Mob Entertainment argues these fake games damage their reputation. The games use screenshots from Poppy Playtime 2 and misleading titles, tricking players, especially children, into spending money on inferior products. The lawsuit highlights that the fake games contain grammatical errors and an unappealing color scheme.
Financial Implications
The lawsuit states that Google profits from these unauthorized games. Mob Entertainment claims that Google receives a percentage of sales from the fake Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 games. Google has yet to respond publicly to the lawsuit.
