PlayStation 5 Pro Unboxed: First Look and New Specs Revealed
The PlayStation 5 Pro embargo has lifted, giving us a glimpse into the new console. The unboxing experience is similar to the original PS5, with a sturdy white cardboard box housing the console, power cable, HDMI and USB-C cables, and a DualSense controller. The console itself is taller than the original PS5 but significantly smaller and lighter, with a more refined design.
First Look:
While the unboxing holds no surprises, the manual provides valuable information about the PS5 Pro’s specs. The console’s power supply is rated for 390W, compared to 340W for the PS5 Digital Edition, indicating an increased power requirement. Sony has also confirmed that the PS5 Pro features a GPU with 16.7TF of compute performance, surpassing previous leaks which suggested a higher figure. This confirmation suggests that the dual issue FP32 support, previously touted for the console, is not present.
New Specs Revealed:
The PS5 Pro boasts additional memory compared to the base unit, with an extra 2GB of DDR5. Leaks previously hinted at 1.2GB of available RAM for game developers, suggesting that the extra memory is likely used for system-level operations, allowing more of the faster memory for games.
Performance & Features:
While specific performance details remain under embargo, our previous coverage has shown impressive results. F1 24 showcases improved ray tracing capabilities, while The Last of Us Part 2 highlights the strengths of the new PSSR upscaling. The PSSR upscaler, as tested in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, proves a powerful alternative to AMD’s standard upscaler and a worthy rival to Nvidia’s DLSS.
Our full review of the PS5 Pro will be published soon, including power consumption testing, PS5 game boost performance analysis, and a deeper look at the PlayStation 4 image enhancement feature. Stay tuned for our comprehensive analysis of this exciting new console.
