My Thoughts on Phantom Blade Zero: A Fast-Paced Action Game with a Twist
Phantom Blade Zero, an upcoming action game from S-Game, has been making waves with its stylish and fast-paced combat. While it’s drawn comparisons to the Souls series, the developer insists it’s not a Soulslike game. After going hands-on with the game at Gamescom, I have to admit that the combat feels somewhere between Sekiro and Ninja Gaiden.
Combat Mechanics and Style
The game’s combat mechanics, including its parry system and Sha-Chi gauge, are well-designed and rewarding. The ability to switch between different weapons, such as the longsword and short swords, adds variety to the gameplay. The visuals, while a bit washed out, are stylish and fitting for the game’s “Kungfupunk” aesthetic.
My Takeaway:
Phantom Blade Zero has the potential to be a great boss rush game, but it’s hard to say if it will have enough substance between battles. The combat is excellent, but the game’s world design and overall pacing remain to be seen. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the game and how it develops.
