Nobuo Uematsu Not Retiring from Video Game Music Composition
Legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu has debunked rumors that he is retiring from video game music work. The confusion arose from a promotional video for the release of Fantasian: Neo Dimension, where Uematsu stated, “This is my final project as a composer of video game music.”
However, Uematsu has since clarified that he is not retiring, but rather scaling back his video game music work to focus on other projects. He expressed his desire to have more time to create the music he wants to make, and while he may not be able to take on entire soundtracks, he would be open to working on individual theme songs.
Uematsu’s Future Plans
Uematsu’s decision to cut back on his video game music work is in line with previous comments he made earlier in the year. He stated that he would likely not compose music for a whole game again, citing the physical and mental demands of such a project. However, he has confirmed that he will continue to contribute to the Final Fantasy series, writing main themes for the games.
Uematsu’s Recent Work
Uematsu has composed scores for Final Fantasy 1-9 and has contributed to many games since. His focus now is on his band, Uematsu Nobuo conTIKI. His latest project, Fantasian: Neo Dimension, will be released on December 5th across various platforms.
