With the Switch 2 launching this year, Nintendo is actively working to prevent scalpers from impacting the console’s release. President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that Nintendo will implement “all possible measures” to ensure sufficient stock meets demand.
Nintendo’s Anti-Scalping Strategy
Furukawa stated that Nintendo’s approach involves producing enough Switch 2 consoles to satisfy consumer demand. This strategy aims to counter the problems experienced during the Switch’s launch and the subsequent COVID-19 pandemic, which exacerbated shortages and fueled scalping activities.
The experience of the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 launches, also plagued by scalpers using bots to acquire large quantities of consoles, further emphasizes the importance of Nintendo’s proactive approach.
Furukawa reiterated that a sufficient supply is key to combating scalpers, a strategy consistent with his statements in 2024.
