Monster Hunter Goes Open World in New Mobile RPG: Monster Hunter Outlanders
The Hunt is On, Mobile Gamers!
The Monster Hunter franchise is bringing its signature monster hunting to your smartphone. Capcom has teamed up with TiMi, the studio behind games like Call of Duty: Mobile and Pokémon Unite, for a spinoff called Monster Hunter Outlanders. Described as an “open-world survival game,” Outlanders can be played solo or in co-op with up to four players.
Familiar Gameplay, New Platform
This new mobile title seems to maintain the core MonHun experience: exploring, hunting, and crafting, but with live service and social elements common in mobile games.
Expanding the Monster Hunter Universe
Since the launch of Monster Hunter World in 2018, the franchise has expanded rapidly. Monster Hunter World went on to become Capcom’s bestselling game, leading to a live-action movie, the smaller-scale Monster Hunter Rise, and a location-based game, Monster Hunter Now, developed in partnership with Pokémon Go maker Niantic. Capcom is also preparing for the next major release in the series, Monster Hunter Wilds, set for release next year.
A Potential Mobile Hit
The franchise’s recent success, combined with TiMi’s experience and MonHun‘s history as a portable experience, suggest that this new mobile game could be a major success. However, a release date has yet to be announced. Capcom has stated that “several play tests” will occur before the official launch.
