Minecraft Ending VR Headset Support in Early 2024
Minecraft players have only a few months left to enjoy the game in virtual reality. Mojang, the game’s developer, has announced that it will be ending support for VR and mixed-reality headsets in March 2025.
The Reason Behind the Decision
According to a Minecraft: Bedrock Edition changelog, the decision to end VR support was made because Mojang’s ability to support VR/MR devices has come to an end. The changelog states that players will no longer be able to use their VR/MR devices with Minecraft after the final update in March 2025.
However, any purchases and worlds will still be accessible on a regular PC. This means that players will still be able to enjoy their Minecraft worlds, but they will no longer be able to experience them in virtual reality.
A Decade of VR Support
Minecraft first introduced official VR support with Oculus in 2016. Later, in 2020, the game also received PlayStation VR support with two different modes: immersive and living room. This means that Minecraft has been available in VR for almost a full decade.
What’s Next for Minecraft?
While VR support is coming to an end, Minecraft is still receiving updates and new features. A native Minecraft PS5 edition has recently been released with 4K visuals at 60fps. The game is also getting a new Hardcore difficulty mode as part of the Bundles of Bravery drop.
For fans of VR gaming, there are still many great options available. The Meta Quest 3S VR headset has recently been released, and it comes bundled with Batman: Arkham Shadow. Players can also check out GameSpot’s list of the best VR games to play in 2024.
