Marvel Snap Returns to the US App Store
A Brief Absence
After a brief removal from the iOS App Store, Marvel Snap is back. The game’s return follows a change in publishing arrangements, distancing it from ByteDance.
The initial removal on January 19th stemmed from US legislation banning ByteDance applications. Marvel Snap, previously published by Nuverse (a ByteDance subsidiary), was caught in the ban alongside TikTok, Lemon8, and CapCut.
The Comeback
Two days later, the developer, Second Dinner, announced Marvel Snap‘s return to US users and its search for a new publisher. While a previous 75-day delay was overcome, Apple required more significant changes for re-distribution.
As of Monday, Marvel Snap is available for download on iPhones in the US. It’s been removed from Apple’s list of ByteDance apps, suggesting Second Dinner successfully secured alternative publishing arrangements. US players are receiving in-game rewards for the disruption.
TikTok Remains Unavailable
Despite Marvel Snap‘s return, TikTok and other ByteDance apps remain unavailable on the Apple App Store. Apple cites potential fines as the reason for not reinstating them. ByteDance could resolve the issue by selling TikTok to a US-based company, though Apple is unlikely to be the buyer.
