Step onto the EPL Pitch with Virtual Reality
Ever dreamed of playing in a real EPL match? A new virtual reality (VR) game makes this possible. Building on the Premier League’s advanced player tracking system using iPhone cameras, Rezzil’s Premier League Player game lets you experience the action firsthand.
Game Features and Development
The game uses real-life player data to create incredibly accurate virtual recreations of EPL matches. You can virtually step onto the pitch and replay actual game plays. This builds on Rezzil’s previous VR sports training program, Rezzil Player, used by athletes across various sports to improve reaction time and cognitive skills.
Rezzil cofounder Andy Etches explains the goal: “Let’s put anybody on the pitch. Get them closer to that visceral thing you can only experience if you’re an actual player.”
The Technology Behind the Game
The Premier League’s optical camera tracking system, capable of tracking thousands of data points on each player, provides the high-precision data needed for realistic VR avatars. This allows for incredibly accurate digital renderings of on-field events within your VR headset.
The Future of Premier League Player
Premier League Player is launching as a first iteration game, and Rezzil plans to use feedback to refine it significantly before the 2025-26 EPL season. The game promises a blend of cognitive training and immersive gameplay, offering a unique fan experience.
