Kojima’s New Games Delayed by SAG-AFTRA Strike
Hideo Kojima recently provided an update on his upcoming games, revealing delays caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike. This strike, which began in July 2024 and continues, significantly impacted his projects.
Affected Games:
OD, developed with Microsoft and Xbox, had its scanning and filming suspended. Physint, published by Sony, experienced a halt in casting. Kojima hopes to resume work on both in 2025.
While Death Stranding 2 wasn’t halted completely, its progress slowed due to the impact on ADR for actors. Games in development before September 2023, and live-service games, are reportedly exempt from the strike’s restrictions. This likely explains why Death Stranding 2 faced less disruption.
Cast and Crew:
- OD features Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, Udo Kier, and director Jordan Peele.
- Death Stranding 2 stars Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Troy Baker, and Elle Fanning.
- Physint’s cast remains undisclosed.
The SAG-AFTRA strike, the first for video game actors since 2016, stems from negotiations concerning generative AI technology. Kojima also mentioned ongoing preparations for the Death Stranding movie and other game adaptations, potentially including a Physint film.
Despite attending The Game Awards in December 2024, Kojima had no new announcements to share. The delays highlight the significant impact of the ongoing strike on the video game industry.
