Ja’Marr Chase Avoids Madden Cover: Fear of the Curse?
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has publicly stated he won’t grace the cover of next year’s Madden NFL game, citing concerns about the infamous Madden Curse.
The Madden Curse: Fact or Fiction?
The supposed curse suggests that Madden cover athletes often suffer injuries or performance declines during the subsequent season. While a CBS Sports analysis found a high percentage of cursed players historically, that percentage is lower in the last decade. Past examples include Christian McCaffrey’s injury-plagued season after being on the Madden NFL 25 cover, although he has a history of injuries. Conversely, Patrick Mahomes, the Madden NFL 20 cover athlete, won the Super Bowl that year.
Chase himself didn’t directly comment on the curse, but his clear reluctance to be on the cover speaks volumes. He did express interest, however, in appearing on the cover of a revived NFL Street game.
