Intel’s Arrow Lake Launch: A Fix Coming, But Gaming Performance Still Lags
Initial reviews of Intel’s new Arrow Lake-based Core Ultra 9 200S-series processor have been less than stellar, especially in the realm of gaming performance. But Intel assures users that this isn’t the final word. According to Robert Hallock, Intel’s VP and GM of client AI and technical marketing, these new chips are expected to perform better, and the company will soon provide an estimated time of arrival (ETA) for the necessary improvements.
Intel had previously acknowledged that these new chips wouldn’t outperform AMD’s chips in gaming. However, reviewers have discovered that the performance gap is larger than anticipated. Even Intel’s earlier Raptor Lake chips have demonstrated better gaming capabilities. When compared to AMD’s impressive Ryzen 9800X3D, the performance difference is even more pronounced.

Hallock emphasizes that the foundation of Intel’s Arrow Lake chips is strong. However, the company has identified factors that contribute to “unintended effects.” He also clarifies that these performance issues are solely Intel’s responsibility and not a result of any external factors like Microsoft.
Intel aims to provide a comprehensive update on the issues and their underlying causes by the end of November or early December. The positive news is that the fix will be relatively straightforward, requiring a BIOS update and a Windows update.
