Indiana Jones PS5 Delay: A Production Decision?
Bethesda’s Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a critically acclaimed title, is available on PC and Xbox, including Game Pass. However, the PlayStation 5 release, initially slated for August, has been pushed back to Spring 2025.
Why the Delay?
Xbox studios boss Matt Booty clarified that the delay isn’t solely a business decision. He emphasized that it’s “as much a production decision as it is anything else,” prioritizing a smooth Xbox launch. Booty highlighted the importance of delivering a “great experience” for Xbox players initially, with the PS5 release following afterward.
Game’s Development History
Booty mentioned that Indiana Jones was in development before Microsoft acquired Bethesda, raising questions about its initial PS5 development plans. This contrasts with Microsoft’s previous statement that no games were pulled from PlayStation following controversies surrounding Redfall. The shift towards multi-platform publishing is evident with recent releases of games like Sea of Thieves and Grounded on Nintendo and Sony platforms.
Looking Ahead
The delay prompts speculation on future Xbox franchise releases on PlayStation. Eurogamer’s review praised Indiana Jones and the Great Circle as a “stealth action tour de force”.
