Hopetown: New Psychological RPG Redefines Genre
Hopetown: A Disco Elysium Spiritual Successor
Longdue, a studio comprised of former Disco Elysium developers and industry veterans, has unveiled Hopetown, its highly anticipated spiritual successor to the acclaimed RPG. This crowdfunding pre-launch project promises to redefine the psychological RPG genre.
Groundbreaking Mechanics and Narrative
In Hopetown, your words are your deadliest weapon. Choices have lasting consequences in a mining town grappling with decay and transformation. You play as a cynical, self-destructive journalist, navigating a world where emotions, memories, and conversations unlock progress, replacing traditional game mechanics.
The game builds upon the mechanics of Disco Elysium and Planescape: Torment, introducing a psychogeography system and a new journalism-based RPG system that lets you craft stories shaping the world and yourself. The developer claims these systems will redefine player agency.
Early Access and Other Spiritual Successors
Pre-launch registration is available at www.longduegames.com, granting early access to backer rewards. Hopetown isn’t alone; XXX Nightshift, from Dark Math Games (a breakaway group from the original Disco Elysium team), is another spiritual successor in development.
A previous report highlighted the complex history behind these various successors, involving fallouts and legal disputes.
