Halo Infinite’s Cancelled Battle Royale Mode: A Game Changer That Never Was
The gaming community has long been abuzz with rumors of a potential Halo Infinite battle royale mode. Now, a former member of Certain Affinity, a renowned Texas-based support studio, has confirmed that the team was indeed working on such a project.
A Cancelled but Promising Project
Certain Affinity has a history of supporting major franchises, including Halo, Call of Duty, and Doom 2016. However, one of its most intriguing projects was a Halo-themed battle royale mode that was frequently rumored but never officially confirmed.
The project began circulating in early 2022, when Certain Affinity announced its deepened relationship with 343 Industries and its plans to “evolve” Halo Infinite in new and exciting ways. However, despite the significant time and resources invested, the project was eventually canceled.
A Game Changer That Never Was
Mike Clopper, former design director at Certain Affinity, has now publicly confirmed the project’s existence and expressed his disappointment at its cancellation. In an update to his LinkedIn profile, Clopper wrote that he led a large team of designers working on the cancelled Battle Royale mode for Halo and believes it could have been a game changer for the franchise.
The cancellation of the project has not deterred Microsoft from moving forward with new plans for the Halo series. The company has announced a third-person mode for Halo Infinite, which is due to arrive next month, and has shared its plans for future Halo games.
