Goodbye 2K Launcher: Steam Now Launches Your 2K Games
Great news for PC gamers! 2K has removed its game launcher from Steam and the Epic Games Store. This means a smoother, more streamlined gaming experience.
How This Affects You
Many titles, including Bioshock Remastered, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and The Quarry, now launch directly through Steam. Games that previously used the 2K launcher for extra features (like mod management in XCOM 2 and XCOM: Chimera Squad) now open a small menu to access those features or launch the game.
This is particularly beneficial for Steam Deck users, enabling mod installation and use. Note that Chimera Squad may have minor graphical glitches on the Steam Deck.
Cleaning Up Leftover Files
While the launcher is gone, some files might remain. 2K has replaced the launcher folder with a 2kLauncherRemoved.txt
file, which is safe to delete. For a thorough cleanup, search your system for "%localappdata%\T2GP Launcher"
and "%appdata%\T2GP Launcher"
. A detailed guide is available on the 2K support site.
What’s Next for 2K?
This change follows the announcement that Civilization 7 won’t require the 2K launcher. Rumors also suggest 2K may be working on an unannounced remake, with speculation focusing on titles like Bioshock and Spec Ops: The Line.
