Epic Games App Store Now Available on Android and iOS in Europe
The Epic Games Store, previously only available on PC and Mac, is now launching for Android users worldwide and for iOS users in Europe. This could be the start of a significant shift in how apps are distributed, especially on iPhones, leading to a future with multiple app stores on your phone.
Epic’s Crusade for App Store Competition
This marks a major victory for Epic in its ongoing battle for app store competition. While their antitrust lawsuit against Apple was unsuccessful last year, they’ve found success through other avenues.
The availability of the Epic Games Store on iOS is made possible by the European Union’s new Digital Markets Act. However, it’s important to note that the store is currently only available in the EU for iOS users.
Tim Sweeney’s Statement
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney stated, “The tide is turning and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition.” He added that “the fight is far from over.”
Games Available at Launch
At launch, the store features popular Epic titles such as:
- Fortnite
- Rocket League Sideswipe
- Fall Guys
Epic plans to add games from third-party developers in December.
