Elden Ring’s Nightreign: Dark Souls Enemies Return
Get ready for a Dark Souls reunion in Elden Ring’s upcoming spin-off, Nightreign! Director Junya Ishizaki confirmed the return of familiar foes from the Dark Souls series, adding to the game’s chaotic atmosphere.
Familiar Faces and More
The reveal trailer showcased The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3, riding a lightning-breathing dragon. Ishizaki confirmed a “small number” of enemies will appear, thanks to the “influence of the Night King”. While he only specifically mentioned Dark Souls, the possibility of Bloodborne and Sekiro enemies remains.
Eagle-eyed fans have already spotted potential appearances of the Centipede Demon (Dark Souls) and The Duke’s Dear Freja (Dark Souls 2). The playable character, the Duchess, bears resemblance to Bloodborne’s Lady Maria, and Wylder’s claw shot echoes Sekiro’s grappling hook.
Gameplay Details
Ishizaki describes Nightreign as a dense yet short game, a single-mission experience condensing RPG fundamentals. Communication with other players relies on pins and gestures, maintaining the “loose connection” of previous Souls games. PvP is absent, and there’s no invasion mechanic. Completing the three-day cycle unlocks relics for various boosting effects.
