Dragon Quest Producer Dreams of Final Fantasy 6 HD-2D Remake
Masaaki Hayasaka, producer of the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, expressed his desire for a similar remake of Final Fantasy 6, although he confirmed no concrete plans are in place.
A Match Made in Heaven?
In an interview with Inverse, Hayasaka highlighted the popularity of the HD-2D style, stating that Final Fantasy 6, with its high-quality pixel art, would be a perfect candidate for this treatment. He noted that the HD-2D style itself was partly inspired by Final Fantasy 6.
He emphasized the compatibility of HD-2D with pixel art games, suggesting that this style is well-suited for remakes of classic titles. This sentiment is shared by many fans, who also yearn for an HD-2D remake of Chrono Trigger.
Challenges of HD-2D Remakes
Hayasaka also discussed the challenges involved in creating HD-2D remakes. He compared the initial teaser for Dragon Quest 3, released three years ago, to the final product, highlighting significant changes in map size and character proportions. He explained that the time taken reflects the complexity of applying HD-2D graphics to an existing game. The high expectations of fans also add to the difficulty.
Despite these challenges, the resulting HD-2D visuals are stunning, as evidenced by the positive reception of the Dragon Quest 3 remake.
While Final Fantasy 6 is currently available in the Pixel Remaster collection, the prospect of an HD-2D remake remains an exciting possibility for fans.
