Dragon Age: Veilguard’s Hardest Choice? Letting Solas Live
A Surprise Twist in Thedas
My Dragon Age: The Veilguard playthrough defied my pre-game plans. I meticulously plan RPG choices, but Veilguard shattered my expectations.
Initially, I avoided mages due to past game portrayals. However, Veilguard‘s mage class, with its dual-weapon system (knife/orb and staff), proved incredibly fun. The elemental system added strategic depth, and the lightning powers were particularly satisfying.
The combo system, while encouraging specific party compositions, led to prioritizing fun banter over optimal synergy. This resulted in unexpected character interactions and relationship developments.
My romantic choice also surprised me. While initially drawn to Lucanis, I found myself captivated by all companions – Davrin’s knightly charm, Harding’s sweetness, Neve’s detective persona, and Taash’s strength. I ultimately chose Emmrich, whose romance was surprisingly mature and heartfelt.
My biggest surprise, though, was the final confrontation with Solas. After years of planning his demise, I chose to let him live, a decision that was both unexpected and emotionally impactful. This unexpected outcome highlighted BioWare’s masterful storytelling. Each choice felt meaningful, forcing difficult decisions with equally rewarding consequences.
