Dragon Age: The Veilguard Hides a Mass Effect Easter Egg
A Familiar Face in a Familiar Setting
Early in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare pays a subtle tribute to its other popular RPG series, Mass Effect. This hidden Easter egg involves a familiar line of dialogue.
The Calibrations Continue
Elven engineer Bellara plays a crucial role in fixing a malfunctioning Eluvian mirror. Engaging in conversation with her during the repair process unlocks a surprising line of dialogue, echoing the famous catchphrase of Mass Effect‘s Garrus Vakarian.
“Sorry Rook,” says Bellara, “I’m just in the middle of some calibrations.” This references Garrus’s repeated insistence on calibrating his weapons in Mass Effect 2, a recurring line that became a humorous meme for players.
A Nod to a Beloved Character
This Easter egg has been noted by other players of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The Reddit community has also commented on the appearance of this inside joke.
The appearance of this Easter egg comes as fans anxiously await news of a new Mass Effect game, currently in development at BioWare. Project director Michael Gamble recently spoke about the differences in tone and style between the two franchises.
Further BioWare Connections
This Easter egg adds to the ongoing conversation about BioWare’s development practices and the ways in which they weave connections between their different series. Recent interviews highlight the deep history of plot points within the Dragon Age universe.
