I’d heard great things about the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series but never played it. A recent freelance opportunity finally gave me the push to try Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Initially, it was fun, but not life-changing. Then came Chapter 4 and Substory 24: Let It Snow.

A Shaved Ice Mystery

The substory starts with a man throwing away his shaved ice. Later, we meet Orlando, who’s trying to fulfill his dying wife Ellie’s wish to see snow together one last time. Ichiban, our protagonist, agrees to help.

Things get unexpectedly bizarre. A diaper-clad yakuza boss, Susumu Gondawara, needs rescuing, and his henchmen are also in diapers. The solution to Orlando’s problem? Mixing diaper absorbent with shaved ice to create artificial snow.

Unexpected Emotion

They throw the mixture from a rooftop, granting Ellie her final wish. Despite the absurdity, the scene is incredibly touching. The unexpected blend of wacky humor and genuine emotion is what makes this substory, and the game, so special.

This one substory completely won me over. The heartwarming story, coupled with the game’s unique brand of humor, showcases the series’ charm perfectly. I’m officially a fan and ready to explore more of the Like a Dragon universe.
