One-Netbook Unveils Second-Generation External GPU Featuring AMD Radeon RX 7800M
One-Netbook has unveiled its second-generation external GPU, the first known product to feature AMD’s Radeon RX 7800M mobile GPU. This new external graphics card enclosure is set to open an Indiegogo campaign soon, promising high-end gaming performance for connected handheld gaming PCs, low-end laptops, or mini PCs.
Upgraded Performance
The RX 7800M nearly doubles the number of compute units from 32 to 60 and increases GDDR6 video memory from 8 GB to 12 GB compared to its predecessor, the RX 7600M XT. According to One-Netbook’s video, the RX 7800M can run the Black Myth: Wukong benchmark comfortably above 60fps at 3,440 x 1,440 resolution using high graphics settings while connected to the company’s OneXPlayer X1 mini PC.
Additional Features and Performance Claims
One-Netbook also claims that the 7800M can stay over 60fps in the 2018 God of War game at 2,560 x 1,600 and in Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1,920 x 1,200 with maximum graphics settings. The OneXGPU 2 supports various connectivity options, including USB 4.0, Oculink, HDMI 2.1, M.2, and two DisplayPort 2.0 outputs, enabling users to connect up to three screens.
External GPUs have typically come in the form of bulky enclosures for used desktop parts, but companies like GPD and One-Netbook now offer travel-sized models based on laptop hardware. The 7800M is expected to offer a good middle ground between the existing 7600M and the much more expensive RX 7900M when it eventually appears in high-end gaming laptops.
