Game Awards Hero Faces Online Hate, Fraud Accusations
Amir Satvat, recipient of The Game Awards’ first ‘Game Changers’ award, has been targeted with online hate, antisemitic remarks, and fraud accusations.
The Backlash
Satvat’s award recognized his work helping over 2,800 laid-off game industry employees find new jobs. However, his employment at Tencent sparked a wave of online abuse. He received hateful messages, disturbing comments about his family, and antisemitic slurs. Accusations included being a fraud and a Tencent plant exploiting the community.
Satvat’s Response
Satvat clarified that his community work predated his Tencent role, beginning in November 2022. He emphasized that his work at Amazon and Tencent was unrelated to his community efforts. He also denied laying off employees and explained a misinterpretation of his role at Tencent as the source of some accusations. He described the online abuse as a “reward” for two years of service to the gaming community.
