Okami 2: New Game from Capcom and Kamiya
Exciting news for fans of the critically acclaimed Okami! A sequel is officially in development, thanks to a collaboration between Capcom and Hideki Kamiya’s new studio, Clovers.
Announced at the Game Awards
The announcement was made at the Game Awards, accompanied by a stunning teaser trailer. Capcom’s website states, “Okami sequel project is underway.” The game promises a new adventure in the same vein as the original, building upon Okami’s unique world, heartwarming story, and thrilling gameplay.
A Long-Awaited Return
While the release date is still some time away, Capcom assures fans to look forward to the project. Clovers, not to be confused with the original Clover Studio, brings many of Okami’s original staff members back together. M-TWO Inc. and Machine Head Works Inc. are also contributing to the sequel.
A Triumphant Comeback
Kamiya previously stated that Okami’s initial sales were a “huge failure”. However, this sequel represents a revival for the beloved title, and a testament to its lasting impact. The original Okami, released in 2006, received widespread acclaim and was later ported to the Wii and released in HD. Eurogamer’s Okami HD review called it “a classic game and an essential part of any collection.”
