Outriders Developer People Can Fly Cuts Jobs, Cancels Projects
Game developer People Can Fly, known for Outriders and Bulletstorm, has announced significant restructuring. This includes the layoff of 120 employees and the scaling back or cancellation of several self-published projects.
Project Cancellations and Restructuring
CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski cited external pressures within the video game industry as the reason for these difficult decisions. In a Twitter statement, he revealed the suspension of Project Victoria, the scaling down of Project Bifrost, and restructuring of supporting teams. The studio will now concentrate on work-for-hire projects and a single independent game.
This follows the April cancellation of Project Dagger. Initially, People Can Fly planned to self-publish all three projects (Dagger, Bifrost, and Victoria) between 2025 and 2026. Now, the future of Bifrost and Victoria remains uncertain.
Ongoing Projects
Despite these setbacks, People Can Fly is still actively developing other titles. These include:
- Project Gemini with Square Enix (launching in 2026)
- Project Red (currently in the concept stage)
- Project Maverick with Microsoft (a mystery IP)
The restructuring represents a significant shift in People Can Fly’s strategy, focusing its efforts on fewer, potentially higher-risk projects while securing work-for-hire contracts for stability.
