Baldur’s Gate 3: A Financial Phenomenon
Larian Studios has announced a staggering pre-tax profit of €249m (£207m) for 2023, primarily driven by the phenomenal success of Baldur’s Gate 3. This marks a dramatic turnaround from their previous loss of €214k (£178k).
Financial Success and Future Plans
According to the Irish Independent, approximately 15 million copies of Baldur’s Gate 3 have been sold, enabling Larian to pay out a €28m (£23m) dividend. While initial sales figures suggested over 10 million copies sold, the game’s popularity continues to grow, with increased daily peak concurrent players and daily active users this year compared to last.
Larian continues to support Baldur’s Gate 3, even earning a nomination for Best Community Support at the Game Awards. Despite briefly considering Baldur’s Gate 4, the studio has shifted focus to two new, self-developed games, promising they will be their “best work ever.”
