Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: A Faithful Adventure Gaming Experience
Playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the upcoming adventure game by MachineGames and Bethesda Softworks, was a real treat. The game promises to be a faithful adaptation of the Indiana Jones film series, and based on my three-hour preview at a recent press event, I couldn’t agree more.
Game Details
- Developer: MachineGames
- Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
- Availability: Out on 6th December (Spring 2025 for PS5)
- Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass and PC (Windows, Steam)
The game opens with a beautiful recreation of Marshall College, where Indiana Jones teaches wannabe archaeologists. The game is full of Indy Easter eggs and stunning visuals, even on a beefy PC.
Gameplay Features
One of the standout features of the game is its clever use of puzzles. The puzzles in the game are all about detective work, and require players to pay attention to visual and aural clues around their environment. For example, in one level, I had to pick up all the discarded artefacts and place them back in their correct places in order to solve the puzzle.
The game also features a unique take on combat, allowing players to employ stealth and fancy fisticuffs to advance without causing a scene. I particularly enjoyed the Jackie Chan-style combat, using pretty much anything that was lying around to clobber enemies with.
Verdict
Overall, I was impressed by Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The game is a love letter to the Indiana Jones film series, and promises to be a faithful adaptation. While there were some minor criticisms, such as the reuse of some familiar puzzle types, I think the game has a lot to offer. Fans of the movie trilogy should definitely have this on their radar.
Watch out for the game’s release on 6th December, and get ready to embark on a thrilling adventure with Indiana Jones!
