Roblox Updates Safety Measures for Preteen Users and Child Protection
Roblox is making changes to limit what pre-teens can access and give parents more control over what their kids do on the platform. These changes come after reports highlighted how Roblox failed to protect children.
New Safety Features
The changes include a new type of account that lets parents manage their kids on the platform. With this new account, parents can link their account to their child’s and update parental controls, as well as access insights about their child’s Roblox usage. This includes daily screen time and on-platform friends.
Content Maturity Settings
Roblox will also start labeling experiences based on the type of content users can expect, rather than by age. This will help parents and users understand the type of content available on Roblox. Parents can set limits on the type of content accessible to their child through the content maturity setting in parental controls.
New Default Settings for Young Users
Users under the age of 13 will need parent permission to access certain chat features. Users under the age of 9 will also need parent permission to access experiences with content maturity “Moderate,” which may contain things like moderate violence or moderate crude humor.
Key Updates
Roblox is committed to making the platform one of the safest online environments for users, particularly the youngest users.
