SAG AFTRA Resumes Video Game Contract Negotiations Talks
Three months after going on strike over concerns about video games’ AI voice work, SAG-AFTRA is heading back to the negotiating table with companies that signed on to the Interactive Media Agreement on October 23. Among the companies engaged in the talks are Disney, Activision, Electronic Arts, and Warner Bros. Games.
Key Companies Involved in the Negotiations
The convenience bargaining group that SAG-AFTRA will be negotiating with includes the following companies:
The guild will also stage a picket line at the Warner Bros. lot on October 16. SAG-AFTRA announced the strike over the summer, citing concerns about protections for artificial-intelligence replication of voice actors and motion-capture performers’ voices, movements, and likenesses.
The Guild’s Demands
SAG-AFTRA wants to guarantee that video game performers have given consent and compensation for any use of their work in any AI models for video games going forward. The guild is seeking respect for human creative performance, whether it’s voice or physical performance. With negotiations set to resume, SAG-AFTRA is hopeful that a resolution can be reached that benefits all parties involved.
