Helldivers 2 Director Takes Break, New Game Coming
Helldivers 2 Director Announces Sabbatical, New Arrowhead Game in Development
After 11 years of dedicated work on the Helldivers series, creative director Johan Pilestedt is taking a well-deserved sabbatical. His journey with Helldivers began in 2013, and he’s been deeply involved since early 2016. This break will allow him to reconnect with family and friends.
A Well-Deserved Rest
Pilestedt’s announcement on social media highlighted the demanding nature of his work, stating that he’s been working ‘around the clock’. He expressed a need to reclaim time lost due to his dedication to the franchise.
Despite his break, support for Helldivers 2 will continue. The game has been a significant success, exceeding 8 million sales in March and achieving the title of PlayStation’s biggest ever Steam launch.
What’s Next for Arrowhead?
Upon his return, Pilestedt will begin work on Arrowhead’s next game. While the details remain scarce, the anticipation for this new project is high. The studio recently faced criticism for the cost of its Killzone 2 collaboration, which was later given to players for free.
The Helldivers Film Adaptation
Arrowhead will be involved in the newly announced Helldivers film adaptation, though in a limited capacity. Pilestedt acknowledged the team’s lack of Hollywood experience. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani added a humorous comment about wanting many A-list actors, all of whom would meet a violent end.
