Indie Game Bundle Helps LA Fire Victims
Devastating wildfires have ravaged Los Angeles since January 7, leaving thousands homeless and impacting the region’s water supply. In response, a unique fundraising initiative has emerged: the California Fire Relief Bundle.
A Collaborative Effort
Organized by Necrosoft Games and volunteers, this bundle features 422 indie games, including popular titles like Tunic and Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Available on Itch.io, the bundle will sell for approximately $10, with proceeds directly benefiting LA residents affected by the fires.
Brandon Sheffield, director at Necrosoft Games, explains the motivation: “I’ve seen many [people] get priced out…So when a fire like this reduces total housing…it feels like those of us in stable living positions should do whatever we can.”
Beyond Charity: Climate Change and the Gaming Industry
Los Angeles’s significance in the gaming industry, coupled with the increasing threat of climate change-fueled wildfires, has spurred widespread support. Many game companies, including Riot Games, Activision, and Sony, are contributing to relief efforts.
A recent Game Developers Conference report highlights the impact of natural disasters on developers, emphasizing the industry’s own carbon footprint and shared responsibility in addressing climate change.
