$1.5 Million Oculus Headset Heist: Six Men Indicted for Truck Thefts
Six men face indictment for a series of elaborate truck thefts, culminating in the theft of $1.5 million worth of Oculus headsets. The group targeted distribution facilities across the Midwest and Southeast, employing a sophisticated method.
How the Heists Went Down
Their method involved tracking semi-trucks from facilities. When drivers stopped for fuel, the group would steal the trucks and trailers, cleverly altering them to avoid detection. This included repainting logos and using different license plates.
The Oculus Heist and More
One significant heist involved a truck carrying Oculus virtual reality goggles valued at approximately $1.5 million from Louisville, Kentucky. Other stolen goods included:
- $940,000 in Microsoft products
- Sony products (value unspecified)
- $530,000 in Harman-JBL products
- CF Moto ATVs
- Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works products valued at $1 million
These thefts spanned 2022 and into 2023. A separate incident in Grapevine, Texas saw seven individuals arrested for stealing similar merchandise directly from warehouses, highlighting a pattern of large-scale thefts of high-value tech and consumer goods.
